- Primary Purpose of the Position
- A Lower School Classroom Teacher fosters a dynamic, inclusive, and student-centered environment that nurtures curiosity, creativity, and a love for learning. The teacher designs and delivers engaging lessons across core subject areas, ensuring that students in Grades 1–5 develop strong academic foundations, social-emotional skills, and critical thinking abilities, while embodying the school’s mission and values.
- Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and implement instructional units across core subjects (literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies) aligned with grade-level expectations and school curriculum.
- Differentiate instruction to address the varied learning styles, abilities, and needs of students.
- Utilize diverse assessment methods to monitor student progress, providing timely and constructive feedback.
- Create a safe and welcoming classroom environment that fosters respect, collaboration, and student agency.
- Support students in developing social-emotional competencies, resilience, and positive relationships.
- Integrate technology and hands-on learning experiences to enhance student engagement.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about student progress, classroom activities, and strategies for home support.
- Collaborate with grade-level colleagues, specialists, and administrators to plan curriculum, events, and interventions.
- Organize and lead class projects, field trips, and school community events.
- Participate actively in professional development, faculty meetings, and school initiatives.
- Certifications and Education - Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or a related field.
- Valid teaching certification/license for elementary grades (U.S. or internationally recognized equivalent).
- Desired
- Master’s degree in Elementary Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or related field.
- Specialized training in literacy, mathematics instruction, or inquiry-based learning.
- Experience - Required
- Minimum of five years of classroom teaching experience.
- Demonstrated experience teaching literacy and numeracy in early and upper elementary grades.
- Desired
- Experience teaching in an international or multicultural context.
- Familiarity with inquiry-based learning, project-based learning, or constructivist approaches.
- Experience with co-teaching or working with learning specialists.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Required
- Strong understanding of child development, pedagogy, and best practices for elementary education.
- Ability to differentiate instruction and foster student agency in learning.
- Proficiency in designing engaging and intellectually challenging lessons.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues
- Desired
- Familiarity with international curricula (e.g., IB PYP or equivalent).
- Skill in integrating technology to support learning and creativity.
- Knowledge of strategies to support multilingual learners.
