  7. Primary Purpose of the Position
  8. The High School Biology Teacher delivers inquiry-based instruction that develops students’ understanding of biological concepts and real-world application of science. Through laboratory experiences, research, and collaborative learning, the teacher cultivates scientifically literate and globally minded learners aligned with the school’s mission and values.
  9. Main Duties and Responsibilities
  10. Instruction and Student Learning
  11. Plan and deliver high-quality biology instruction across high school grade levels (e.g., Grades 9–12), including foundational and advanced courses as assigned.
  12. Design engaging, inquiry-based lessons that integrate scientific concepts, laboratory skills, and real-world applications.
  13. Facilitate student understanding of core topics such as cell biology, genetics, ecology, evolution, and human biology.
  14. Develop students’ scientific literacy, data analysis, research, and critical thinking skills.
  15. Promote student ownership of learning through reflection, inquiry, and independent investigation.
  16. Laboratory and Practical Work
  17. Design and implement safe, effective, and engaging laboratory experiences aligned with curriculum objectives.
  18. Teach proper use of laboratory equipment, scientific methods, and safety protocols.
  19. Supervise and manage laboratory activities to ensure student safety and meaningful learning.
  20. Maintain and organize laboratory materials, equipment, and resources.
  21. Assessment and Feedback
  22. Design and administer diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments aligned with course standards.
  23. Provide timely, constructive feedback to support student growth and scientific understanding.
  24. Maintain accurate records of student performance and communicate progress with students and families.
  25. Prepare students for internal and external assessments as applicable (e.g., IB, AP, or standardized exams).
  26. Collaboration and Curriculum Development
  27. Collaborate with science department colleagues to ensure vertical and horizontal curriculum alignment.
  28. Participate in curriculum development and review to reflect current scientific knowledge and best practices.
  29. Contribute to interdisciplinary initiatives and STEM-related programs.
  30. Professional Practice and Community Engagement
  31. Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues in culturally appropriate ways.
  32. Participate actively in professional development, departmental meetings, and school-wide initiatives.
  33. Contribute to extracurricular activities such as science clubs, fairs, or research opportunities.
  34. Demonstrate professionalism in attendance, punctuality, conduct, and communication.
  35. Certifications and Education
  36. Required
  37. Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Life Sciences, Science Education, or a related field.
  38. Valid teaching certification/license (U.S. or internationally recognized equivalent).
  39. Desired
  40. Master’s degree in Biology, Science Education, or related discipline.
  41. Certification or training in IB Biology, AP Biology, or advanced science programs.
  42. Experience

  44. Minimum of five years of high school science teaching experience.
  45. Demonstrated experience teaching biology through inquiry-based and laboratory approaches.
  46. Desired
  47. Experience teaching IB, AP, or honors-level biology courses.
  48. Experience in international or multicultural school settings.
  49. Experience mentoring students in research projects, science fairs, or competitions.
  50. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  51. Required
  52. Strong content knowledge in biology and life sciences.
  53. Ability to design and facilitate inquiry-based and laboratory-centered instruction.
  54. Strong classroom management and organizational skills in lab and classroom settings.
  55. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
