- Primary Purpose of the Position
- The High School Biology Teacher delivers inquiry-based instruction that develops students’ understanding of biological concepts and real-world application of science. Through laboratory experiences, research, and collaborative learning, the teacher cultivates scientifically literate and globally minded learners aligned with the school’s mission and values.
- Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Instruction and Student Learning
- Plan and deliver high-quality biology instruction across high school grade levels (e.g., Grades 9–12), including foundational and advanced courses as assigned.
- Design engaging, inquiry-based lessons that integrate scientific concepts, laboratory skills, and real-world applications.
- Facilitate student understanding of core topics such as cell biology, genetics, ecology, evolution, and human biology.
- Develop students’ scientific literacy, data analysis, research, and critical thinking skills.
- Promote student ownership of learning through reflection, inquiry, and independent investigation.
- Laboratory and Practical Work
- Design and implement safe, effective, and engaging laboratory experiences aligned with curriculum objectives.
- Teach proper use of laboratory equipment, scientific methods, and safety protocols.
- Supervise and manage laboratory activities to ensure student safety and meaningful learning.
- Maintain and organize laboratory materials, equipment, and resources.
- Assessment and Feedback
- Design and administer diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments aligned with course standards.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback to support student growth and scientific understanding.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and communicate progress with students and families.
- Prepare students for internal and external assessments as applicable (e.g., IB, AP, or standardized exams).
- Collaboration and Curriculum Development
- Collaborate with science department colleagues to ensure vertical and horizontal curriculum alignment.
- Participate in curriculum development and review to reflect current scientific knowledge and best practices.
- Contribute to interdisciplinary initiatives and STEM-related programs.
- Professional Practice and Community Engagement
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues in culturally appropriate ways.
- Participate actively in professional development, departmental meetings, and school-wide initiatives.
- Contribute to extracurricular activities such as science clubs, fairs, or research opportunities.
- Demonstrate professionalism in attendance, punctuality, conduct, and communication.
- Certifications and Education
- Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Life Sciences, Science Education, or a related field.
- Valid teaching certification/license (U.S. or internationally recognized equivalent).
- Desired
- Master’s degree in Biology, Science Education, or related discipline.
- Certification or training in IB Biology, AP Biology, or advanced science programs.
- Experience
- Required
- Minimum of five years of high school science teaching experience.
- Demonstrated experience teaching biology through inquiry-based and laboratory approaches.

- Experience teaching IB, AP, or honors-level biology courses.
- Experience in international or multicultural school settings.
- Experience mentoring students in research projects, science fairs, or competitions.
